The Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, has called for collective action by fathers, traditional rulers, religious leaders, men and boys to end child marriage, protect girls’ rights and secure their future through education and empowerment.
The Minister who stated this in Abuja while commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child, said no girl should be denied her childhood stressing that they are building a nation where every girl is safe, educated, and empowered.
She urged men and boys to become active partners in changing attitudes and practices that expose girls to early marriage, while fathers and community leaders must champion their daughters’ education, ambitions and right to determine their futures.
The 2026 International Day of the Girl Child, observed globally on October 11, underscores the shared responsibility to protect girls’ rights, end child marriage and ensure that every girl has the opportunity to learn, thrive and shape her own future.
